Powerchip to Build Four New Chip Plants in Next Six Years

According to the Taiwanese newspaper Commercial Times, Powerchip has plans to build four new semiconductor plants in the coming six years, in an effort to catch up with rivals Samsung and Hynix. In the short term, the company expects it will be able to increase production capacity by 70% in 2006, while cutting manufacturing costs by 50%.
